Interior design trends can be divided into several themes. It can be set with time periods or it can be set by color schemes among many other things. In this article, we have put together a shortlist of interior design trends you should look out for in 2022.
Interior Design Trends We Can’t-Wait to See
Here are some of the trends that we are likely to see in 2022.
Multifunctional Spaces
Space has long been a talking point when it comes to interior design. Many new houses and apartments may not be built with huge space in mind. However, you will still be able to utilize space to your advantage.
There are so many creative ideas ranging from overhead storage spaces to overhead sleeping spaces. Living rooms that also double as a workspace when guests are not around. The concept of consolidating multiple functions into one single space can be highly beneficial and its application has endless forms.
For instance, you may not have enough space to accommodate 2 separate spaces to live and work in, but multifunctional spaces can accommodate that need effectively. This set-up is particularly resourceful given the lifestyle changes that were brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minimalistic Designs
Minimalistic has been around for over 2 decades and its popularity has only increased exponentially since. Minimalistic designs are meant to be simple, functional, and have great color matches.
Expect to see a lot of whites and greys combined with other plain colors. Minimalistic designs are often inspired by the Japanese simplistic way of living, which also incorporates minimalist furniture.
In minimalistic designs, people typically stick to one or two colors and the main substrate material for furniture. Popular choices are often wood, followed by steel, with limited ornamentation. Sometimes, different textures and contrasting surfaces may also be incorporated.
Nature Transplanted
Reinforced through lifestyle changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, incorporating plants and nature elements into our living spaces have since grown (pun intended) into a huge staple for interior decor.
Unlike in the past, space is no longer a limiting factor for adding more plants or nature. The traditional idea of planting only in a garden or backyard has been elevated to, not only innovative ideas of “green” walls and plants shelves, but also new assortments of home plants, such as succulents and cacti.
Now, incorporating plants and nature into your home doesn’t have to be overly complicated, it all depends on how you supplement them to your living space. It shouldn’t be too financially- or time- costly either. Succulents are a great way to start adding nature to your living space as they require the least amount of maintenance and attention.
Sustainable and Organic Material
Sustainable and organic materials, such as reclaimed wood, slabs, bamboo, etc. are continuously included in modern day furniture production. This trend will continue to persist due to the increasing public awareness and participation in sustainable living standards.
In addition to reducing materials wastage, recycling and reusing old furniture materials for new ones effectively extends the lifespan of the original resources. This is due to wood’s inherent capacity to be rescaled and maintained for additional usage.
When it comes to aesthetics, furniture pieces made from organic materials are superior to their synthetic cousins. Wooden frames and slabs blend well with most interior space designs and can exude an additional natural ambiance to space.
Rounded Furniture
From shape to symmetry, rounded furniture is often regarded as the more stylish option than its square counterparts. For a family, a round piece of furniture is also more child-friendly and provides more user capacity.
Additionally, most rounded furniture is made to fit into spaces seamlessly. This ensures that the furniture blends in with living spaces more naturally while also requiring lesser space to occupy.
Smarter Furniture and Space
Smarter furniture does not necessarily mean smaller furniture, although in some cases downsizing helps spatial arrangement tremendously. For those living with limited space, smart furniture can be the game-changer that helps save space while simultaneously providing added practicality to an area.
For example, certain smart dining tables can be turned into a sofa or sitting area which gives it a duality to its function. In some cases, you can even turn a bed into a writing table. The possibilities are endless and wide with today’s innovation. With various options available in the market, it becomes increasingly straightforward to manipulate space to our personal preference.
Like consumer needs, interior design trends fluctuate depending on innovation and familiarity. Trends that linger around longer than others are usually more practical, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. What are your favorite current design trends? Talk to us!
